Story of the hotel
Zoland is an exceptional high-altitude sanctuary, preserved at the heart of Mount Emei's woodlands, within this sacred territory listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Its identity takes inspiration from the Chinese character 岚 — water vapor rising through the foliage: a fitting imagery for a place that pairs physical shelter with inner exploration. Founded in 2025, the brand 岚域 opens its flagship hotel here, located just steps from the Qingyin Pavilion, within a two-hectare estate organized around seven private courtyards.
The design bears the signature of Justin, principal designer at MDO Design Studio. Evoking the historic residences of western Sichuan, these seven distinct structures have been reinterpreted to grow in symbiosis with the topography: 23 suites, a fine-dining restaurant, a wine cellar, dedicated wellness and treatment spaces, as well as peaceful contemplation areas. Raw materials speak for themselves — local stone, timber, silence — allowing the architecture to fade into the forest rather than stand out from it.
The property carries on the legacy of East Asian scholars who sought intellectual autonomy and personal peace through mountain seclusion. This vision of a humanist mountain life governs the entire guest experience: accommodation, dining, wellness rituals, and sensory immersions.
